To pay tribute to the traditions and performance aesthetics of singers such as Leo Slezak, Lauritz Melchior, Miguel Fleta, Kirsten Flagstad, Renata Tebaldi, Maria Callas, Rosette Anday, Heinrich Rehkemper, Ettore Bastianini, Alexander Kipnis (to name a few) and of the composer Gustav Mahler in regards to his life as the most distinguished director of the Vienna Court Opera  (Hofoper), the Mahler Philharmonic Society in Vienna is pleased to announce the MEISTERSINGER Award, a distinction reserved to singers who throughout their careers have achieved outstanding interpretations of the works by Gustav Mahler, Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi.  


This prestigious award ceremony will take place as follows:

Venue: Palais Lobkowitz

Hall: Eroica-Saal

Begin: 19h00

Award: Gold medal (24 Karat)*


* At the discretion of the Board of Directors, all nominees may be invited to collaborate with the Mahler Philharmonic Society at  future appointments.


The winner will be presented at the "Verdi & Wagner Gala", featuring star-baritone Paolo Rumetz, among other artists. 

Nominees to the 2019 MEISTERSINGER Award will be presented in recital at the Palais Khevenhüller-Metsch in Vienna on June 23rd, 2019 (19h00), featuring songs by Gustav Mahler and arias by either Richard Wagner or Giuseppe Verdi respectively.
